1. Vision Tip of the Month: The Simple Power of Blinking

Blinking cleanses and lubricates the eyes. When there is no tension or visual stress, your eyes blink 10 - 12 times every minute, or about once every 5 seconds. People who do not see clearly tend to unconsciously stare and hold their eyes open, which causes strain, decreased vision and the feeling of dry, itching, burning or tired eyes.

Consciously remind yourself to blink every 3 - 5 seconds. Of course, you don't want to go through the day with a stopwatch, but the more conscious you are of blinking regularly, the better it is for your eyes.

Flutter Blinking is one exercise that you can use any time during the day when you catch yourself staring or when your eyes feel strained or tired. To practice Flutter Blinking, blink your eyes lightly and rapidly 10 - 20 times. Do not strain or squeeze your eyes shut; instead, relax your face as you blink. Then close your eyes for a moment and relax. Repeat this 2 or 3 times. Flutter Blinking will help to keep your eyes moist, relaxed and free of strain.

Be careful if you use eye drops. Most over-the-counter drops interfere with the eyes’ natural lubricating abilities, weakening the eyes’ ability to replenish fluids itself.

The eye drops we offer stimulate the natural healing and balance in your eyes. You can use them as often as you need to, and, over time, your need for them should diminish. They are completely safe and natural.

2. Nourish Your Vision with Vitamins and Herbs

There are three things to consider when choosing nutritional supplements for your eyes:

1. How important the visual system is to the body.
2. What ingredients - vitamins, minerals and herbs - are in the supplement.
3. The amount of each ingredient contained in the supplement.

1. The visual system - the eyes, nerves, muscles and processing centers in the brain - consume over 30% of the oxygen we breathe and more than 25% of the nutrition that we take in. A truly healthy body leads to a healthy visual system; a healthy visual system is the result of a healthy body. The eyes do not exist in isolation. The vitamins we take cannot magically be made to go to the eyes alone. Beware of any supplements that make claims to the contrary.

For the one exception to this rule:

2. There are plenty of vision formulas on the market. It took us a long time to find the one that we now recommend in confidence - The Nutri-Plex Vitamin and Mineral formula, developed by ophthalmologist Dr. Gary Price Todd. You'll find EVERYTHING known to be necessary for the health of the body and the eyes in Nutri-Plex.

Nutri-Plex does it all - you won’t need one formula for the eyes and another for your body.

3. You MIGHT find another formula that contains all of these ingredients, but you have to look deeper. What are the AMOUNTS of each ingredient? The amounts of the individual ingredients in Nutri-Plex are the amounts your body and your eyes require. This is particularly true of the anti-oxidants and the trace minerals. Also keep in mind that TOO MUCH of certain vitamins and minerals are unnecessary and costly, and may, in some cases, even be dangerous.

3. Q & A: What Is Astigmatism?

Astigmatism occurs when the front surface of the eye, the cornea, is slightly irregular in shape. This irregular shape prevents light from focusing properly on the back of the eye (the retina). As a result, vision may be blurred at all distances. An astigmatic cornea causes light images to focus on two separate points in the eye, creating a distorted, and sometimes double, image.

If the astigmatism results from uneven pulling on the eye by the six extra-ocular muscles it can be reduced or eliminated by the techniques in The Program for Better Vision - either the audiotape system or the book.

To find out if you have astigmatism, go to question #7 from the vision test on our website. <http://www.bettervision.com/visiontest.html> If some of the lines look blacker than others, you have astigmatism.

4. Vision Challenge Winner:

Here’s what Dan Service of Alberta Canada describes his improvements with The Program for Better Vision:

"After using your system for several months. I am happy to report that my vision has improved by a third! Even so, after his examination, the optometrist spent some time with his arms folded in front telling me that your system can do nothing for me!

"Since I had this eye exam, I am certain my eyes have improved substantially again…I stopped into one of our driver registry offices to see if I could have the glasses endorsement lifted off my license. I don't know how they test in the states, but here they have you look into a type of viewmaster, where there is seven rows of numbers and letters. The first row is the larger figures and the seventh is the smallest. Six is a pass - I could read the numbers and letters on row number 5. Next year my license comes up for renewal, and I will try again.

"I think it is absolutely amazing that I am able to reverse 45 years of dependency on glasses."

Congratulations, Dan!
