Before you call a behavioral optometrist, first read about behavioral optometry so that you more fully understand what to expect at your visit. Then phone the doctor(s) that you find in your area (look on the bottom of this page) and ask whether they do the complete series of tests described. It is also useful to inquire whether vision therapy is available in the office. The fact it is indicates that the doctor most likely is behaviorally oriented. It is also permissible to ask if the doctor would be willing, after an examination, to prescribe an undercorrected prescription. The behavioral optometrists on The Cambridge Institute's Select Referral List know about the work that we do and we can recommend them with confidence. Each of these doctors can give you a thorough eye exam and has told us that they will prescribe undercorrected glasses or contacts when the patient asks for it. (The importance of an undercorrection is explained in The Program for Better Vision). Some of these doctors may also offer vision therapy. Determining if you can benefit from vision therapy is a decision you should make in consultation with the doctor you visit. If the doctor that you visit has any questions, have them call the Cambridge Institute directly (978-887-3883). We should be able to give them the information that they need to help you. This way, you are not putting yourself in the position of having to explain something to someone else that you might not yet completely understand yourself. STATE BY STATE LISTING OF BEHAVIORAL OPTOMETRISTS NOTE: These doctors will not help you use The Program for Better Vision or any of our other products. If you have questions about using The Program or any of our other products, contact the Cambridge Institute. To find a behavioral optometrist, just select the two-letter abbreviation for your state from the drop-down list below. (If none of the doctors in your state are near you, call a few anyway - perhaps they know of another doctor that is nearer to you. Or you can try calling a doctor in a state near you for a referral.) (PLESE NOTE: SOME TELEPHONE AREA CODES MAY HAVE CHANGED.) Select A State or Province If you find a doctor that you are pleased with that is not already on our Select Referral List, please let us know about their practice. If for some reason you are not pleased with a doctor you find our Select Referral List, also let us know. (If you are looking for an undercorrected prescription and cannot locate a behavioral optometrist, it's possible that a regular optometrist would be willing to comply with your request after an examination. It is your right as a patient to ask!) |
